Record list

Deprecated. RecordList (.rl-*) is the rejected predecessor of item-list — AD ruling of 20 Jul 2026, docs/PLAN-listview.md. It is kept in the registry only because screens still render it, not because it is a pattern anyone should reach for.

When to use

Never, in new work. There is no case where this is the right answer today.

When not to use

  • Any listing of items — that is item-list, the canon: one row pattern for tasks, e-mails, activities, notes, files and queues, in two densities and two width modes.
  • Anything you were about to migrate onto this. Migrate off it, in the other direction, when a screen is being touched anyway.

Anatomy

.rl-* classes in apps/web/src/ds/record-list.css. Not documented in detail on purpose: describing the anatomy of a rejected pattern invites its reuse. Read the sheet if you are removing it.

Best practices

Do

  • Replace it with item-list when a screen that uses it is being reworked for another reason.
  • Leave it alone otherwise — a migration for its own sake is churn, and the sheet is not hurting anyone while it sits still.

Don't

  • Extend it, add a variant, or fix its geometry to match a new design.
  • Start a new screen on it.
  • Delete the sheet before the last consumer is gone; ds:sync-check and the visual baselines both still see it.

Content

Not applicable.

  • item-list — the canon that replaces this.
  • task-list, email-list, timeline — specialisations built on the canon, not on this.
  • docs/PLAN-listview.md in the app repo — the ruling and the reasoning.
